Have you ever forgotten your phone at home and felt like you were completely naked the whole day? It’s happened to me more often than I care for. We live in a world where we are constantly connected and I don’t know what I would do without my smartphone to Google info, map the quickest trip, share my tweets and more! That’s why our community partner TELUS has stepped in to make sure that we can stay connected by offering free wi-fi in public locations including our very own Scotiabank Saddledome.
We’ve all had that Dome experience being packed into a sold-out arena to watch a concert or catch the hockey game live. You want to share a photo on Facebook or text a friend about what’s going on – except so do the thousands of other people around you too! You were lucky if you could even get your message to send, let alone make it to its destination.

I went to my first Flames game of the season a couple of weeks ago and I gave the Telus wi-fi a try. And it’s frickin’ brilliant! The sign-up process takes a few simple steps and once you are logged in, you stay logged in. No annoying pop-up screens telling you to sign in again and the connection is consistent and reliable all night long. Oh yea, and the game was pretty sweet too as the boys in red beat the Coyotes 5-3. I was really sad to see that the Flames don’t do the tweet to the Jumbotron anymore – probably because people weren’t able to send their tweets in the building before! Now that the wi-fi is in place, I’d love to see this social fun back in the Dome (#FlamesT2S for the win!)

The Saddledome is just one of many locations across the country that TELUS is setting up free wi-fi including BC Place in Vancouver and TD Place in Ottawa. TELUS wi-fi is also available at the EPCOR Centre for Performing Arts with more locations to come around town.
